Madison FUMC After School Program
The Right Time and the Right Place to Be After School on Wednesday!
The ASP (After School Program) at Madison First began in the fall of 2003. Every Wednesday throughout the school year, 3rd, through 8th graders of the community meet in the Fellowship Hall for snacks, homework time, drama class and choir. The program is open to all children in the community. The average attendance is around thirty children with four adults on site to run the program.
Mrs. Debra Miles, our ASP Coordinator, is responsible for ensuring that our children enjoy a satisfying after-school snack and do their best to complete homework assignments. In addition, Debra coordinates our wonderful ASP volunteers and assists Kathleen in this year’s music and drama productions. ASP welcomes Mrs. Shelly Massey as our permanent ASP Parent Volunteer!
Mrs. Kathleen Bryant, our Children’s Music Director, has planned another year filled with drama and song. Many of the Praise and Worship songs she will teach the children will be performed during our Sunday services. This semester, the ASP kids will be rehearsing “The Tale of the Three Trees”. This heartwarming musical is based on an American folk tale which captures the message of Jesus in a way that is both fresh and timeless. Middle school student choir members join the ASP kids for snack and homework time, after which they meet with out Music Director, Steve Delaigle, for choir practice.
FUMC’s ASP program is a free service to our community. There are at least five denominations and three school systems represented in our program. Many of the children come to church when they sing or perform a dramatization and bring their families with them. The ASP has become a powerful outreach for our church. It is a wonderful place for the children of our community and church to get involved and become active participants in worship and outreach.
