Honduras Mission Trip
Just the Right Mission for Just the Right Reasons
“Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.” 1 Chron. 16:24
Since the summer of 2001, the Madison First United Methodist church has joined with 13 other area Methodist congregations to send mission teams to Honduras. Led by the vision and inspiration of Dr. Jimmy Thompson, the teams have instituted a coordinated plan to enhance the presence of the Methodist church in that country. The goal was to develop and implement a blueprint which would not only minister to those with immediate need, but to establish a framework that would lead to self-sufficiency.
To date, the program has grown and prospered and the effects are obvious in tangible ways. At the Mount Zion Church in La Ceiba, teams have added a new kitchen, and two new bathrooms, remodeled and painted the fellowship hall and furniture. The Emmanuel Church in El Pino, an outlying village, has received a sanctuary, an education/fellowship hall/pastor’s apartment and a full service medical clinic. There are many other areas and churches that have grown and benefited from this important mission.
A big thank you to David Burbach, Butch Thompson, and Scott Webb, who traveled to Honduras from September 10th -17th. They took with them the medical, school supplies, and sewing supplies generously donated by our Madison First congregation. They were partnering with members of Walker Methodist and West Point Methodist to finish the new vocational facility at the Emmanuel Church.
We are thankful for their service and their willingness to go and share the gospel. The influence of the gospel that has resulted from their work, together with other Methodist groups and the Honduran people has been truly life changing. The people of Honduras and those who go so willingly to serve are greatly blessed by this mission.

Mississippi Mission Trip
A Mission for Hurricane Katrina Victims
Tuesday November 1st, Sally Stephens, Cindy South, Anelle and Jimmy Argo left for Diamondhead, Mississippi with a van and a truck loaded with 87 blankets and over 135 coats for the hurricane survivors. The devastation along the coast was unbelievable. Everything from Interstate 10 to the coast was destroyed or heavily damaged. People were living in tents around damaged homes and trying to repair or clean houses. We delivered blankets and coats to a school where 28 of the teachers lost everything and were living 1to 2 hours away. In another elementary school 170 families lost everything.
The other blankets and coats were taken to the P.O.D. Here people could come and get supplies or food, a hot meal or clothes. There was one grocery store for the whole county.
Rite Aid drug store was housed in two trailers one for prescription and the other one for other medicines. There is no place in the county to buy clothes or other goods. Walmart is to open the end of this month.
Diamondhead Baptist Church housed work teams from all over the United States. These teams went out each day to help with clean up or repair to houses. There is much to be done and people are helping.
Thanks to all of you who donated to this cause. We are very blessed.
