UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
Just the Right Thing for Women of the Faith
Our two United Methodist Women’s groups at Madison First United Methodist Church are very active! The Elizabeth Harris Baldwin group meets the first Monday of each month at 2:30 P.M. in the afternoon and the Wesley group meets on the first Tuesday night of the month at 7:30 P.M. The women in both groups participate in Bible Study, missions, and an interesting reading program. Our unit is proud to be designated as a 5-Star unit, contributing to all five channels of undesignated giving. Timely, rich programs throughout the year include a Call to Prayer and Self-Denial, Pledge Service, World Thank Offering, and many programs covering a variety of local issues and concerns. Our highlight every year is our Senior Banquet, honoring newly graduating High School Seniors and their families. We host this group in the beautifully decorated Fellowship Hall, featuring a special guest speaker and individual poems about each graduate.
If you would like more information about this active, mission-oriented, supportive group of United Methodist Women, please contact Sarah Burbach, President, at 342-2904.

UNITED METHODIST MEN
Just the Right Thing for Real Christian Men
The United Methodist Men have been busy this year supporting our church and reaching out to the Madison community. UMM meets the first Sunday of each month at the church for a breakfast meeting and spiritual program. The group of dedicated men sponsors many projects throughout the church year. Money made from projects such as bar-b-cues and church lunches are used to send children to camp, fund mission work, support the Caring Place and Habitat for Humanity as well as local and church needs. A highlight of the United Methodist Men’s year is the annual Sweetheart Banquet in February for the ladies of the church. Come and join this dedicated, motivated group of men!

Samaritan Counseling Center
The story of the Good Samaritan is one of the most familiar stories in the Bible. It is the heart-warming story of a person who goes out of his way to minister to someone who is beaten, abused, and left by the roadside to die. Not every one finds themselves in such a desperate situation, but few of us go through life without experiencing pain of one kind or another. At such times, it is helpful to find someone who will care and listen to our concerns, someone who will help us through life’s difficult circumstances and set us on the road to healing and wholeness.
The Samaritan Counseling Center offers members of our church and community just such encouragement and help. The main office is in Athens, but a satellite office operates out of our Education Building. If you need the support of a professional counselor, we encourage you to consider the Samaritan Counseling Center at 1-800-490-7911.

FUMC RECREATION
Just the Right Fun, Exercise, and Fellowship
This summer FUMC had an enthusiastic and talented softball team in the Morgan County Men’s Softball League (Church Division). This is a fun, yet competitive league and, as always, FUMC made a great showing. Not only did the men win their share of games, but they competed with an exemplary spirit of Christian fellowship.
The men will be starting the fall flag football season the first week of October. With our FUMC talent, we expect to have another winning team this year. All are welcome to come out and support our FUMC teams! If you have any questions about the recreation programs at FUMC, please contact Troy Bryant .
